Columbus Public Health’s Family Engagement initiative is a community-based intervention program giving families the help they need to support their child’s success through strong and respectful interventions, groups and program initiatives. We work with families to maximize young people’s odds of success and minimize their likelihood of getting in trouble. Our mission is to provide a meaningful partnership with families and youth so families are valued and appreciated as experts and critical stakeholders in shaping outcomes.
What we do to support parents and engage families:
• Provide families with counseling, employment assistant and links to community resources.
• Provide youth with counseling, case management, conflict resolution support and mediation.
• Offer community outreach and programming related to anti- violence, parent support, grief and healing.
• Help identify needs or challenges facing the family.
• Identify family members’ thoughts and feelings about their child’s
needs and readiness for support.
• Reach out to additional family members or other supportive
adults.
• Offer a safe place where families and parents can gain support
from parents facing similar challenges and receive practical
guidance from peers and parent mentors.
• Link families to community resources such as employment,
housing, support groups and medical assistance.
